American Fiction. American Fiction is probably my favorite movie of the last 1–2 years. I’ve become obsessed with it, and you’ll laugh your ass off. It’s a comedic Trojan Horse of epic proportions. Don’t trust the streaming descriptions; American Fiction is about much more. Every character is flawed in their own beautiful, human way, and the writing hits a home run. This 1997 classic was co-written and directed by Roberto Benigni, who also plays the lead role. Life Is Beautiful follows Guido, a Jewish-Italian father who shields his young son from the horrors of a concentration camp by convincing him it’s all an elaborate game.
